Wet cobblestones in the Gothic Quarter reflect the pale, diffused morning light, glistening under the arch of a stone balcony where a faded green awning droops slightly. A woman in a yellow raincoat leans over a wrought-iron stair rail, adjusting a large, frilled white powder puff caught in her hand, perhaps securing a loose strap on her bag. Beside her, a small thermos rests precariously on a narrow stone ledge, steam barely visible against the cool air. Pigeons scatter across the slick pavement, their grey feathers against the dark, rain-slicked masonry.
