A vendor stands behind a cramped, stainless-steel tea cart on a Boston street corner as twilight deepens into blue hour, the cool ambient light clashing with the warm, yellow spill from a bare bulb screwed into the cart’s metal frame. Steam rises in thin, ghostly ribbons from a large, dented aluminum kettle, curling past hanging plastic cups and a stack of folded paper napkins. The vendor’s hands, blurred by motion, maneuver a wooden ladle into a clear plastic cup, capturing a split-second of service. In the background, the blurred red brick of a nearby building and the distant glow of a MBTA sign provide clear urban density.
