Morning light falls through rain-washed magnolia leaves to illuminate a chipped porcelain cup resting on a wet wooden porch railing in Charleston. Water droplets rest on the rim of the cup, distorting the view of the dark tea stains settled at the bottom of the glaze. The rough grain of the weathered wood contrasts with the smooth, cool surface of the ceramic, reflecting the soft gray sky above. One raindrop falls from a nearby leaf, creating a tiny ripple in the puddle forming on the railing beside the cup.
