Soft side light defines the texture of the muzzle and the set of the long ears, while the background remains uncluttered and dark. A worn wooden floorboard seam runs along the bottom edge, at the base of the subject in a lived-in hallway threshold. The negative space surrounding the dog emphasizes the quiet atmosphere of the early evening, and the film grain adds a tactile quality to the fur and the soft fabric of the cushion.
