A standard poodle sits at the threshold of a front room, its dense curly coat catching the warm, flickering glow of a nearby candle. The dog is positioned near the edge of the frame, looking toward a curtained window where early spring condensation beads on the glass. Soft indoor light defines the muzzle shape and ear set while shadows pool in the hallway beyond. A floorboard seam runs diagonally across the foreground, and a faint lamp spill illuminates the plaster wall behind. The animal remains still, its dark eyes reflecting the single light source, creating a moment of quiet attentiveness in the still hours before full dawn.
