Pig Nursery Pen With Heated Mats and Straw

Deep shadows pool across the earthen floor of a pig nursery pen near a windbreak in Tohoku, where a single strip of rim light defines the edge of a heated creep mat. Fresh straw, pushed clear of the metal feeder lip, creates a textured foreground of pale yellow against the dark, damp soil. Heavy chew chains hang vertically from the wooden fencing, their metal links catching the faint morning glow. Layers of depth recede into the distance, showing additional pens fading into the cool air. The late summer season is evident in the green foliage visible beyond the water trough, against the utilitarian, practical farm textures that dominate the immediate space. A thin shadow falls across the straw near the feeder.
