Peel Curls in Osaka

Golden hour light spills across the narrow alleyway of Shinsaibashi, illuminating a small family-run confectionery shop. An elderly woman stands behind the counter, her hands carefully arranging bright orange peel curls on a white ceramic plate, the vibrant citrus against the deep red lacquer of the display case. Beside the plate, a small glass measuring cup holds a clear syrup, catching the warm, low-angle sun. The shop’s wooden sliding doors are partially open, revealing stacks of folded linen towels used for wrapping sweets, their soft creases visible in the ambient glow. Outside, the street is quiet, with only the shadow of a passing cyclist stretching across the pavement.
