Orange Flagger Paddle on Scaffold Before Dusk

Copper-toned light washes over a bright orange traffic-control paddle resting on its metal stand. The stand sits directly in front of a steel scaffold structure climbing the facade of a building in Yokohama. Thin horizontal bars of the scaffolding create strong converging lines that lead toward a distant vanishing point. Dramatic clouds hang heavy in the sky above, their undersides dark against the fading daylight. The metal surfaces of the stand show signs of grit and use, lying beside the smooth, painted orange of the paddle. Early spring conditions appear in the crisp angle of the light, with no leaves or blooms visible on the immediate structure. A shadow from the paddle stretches across the concrete ground, marking the angle of the last sun.
