Deep autumn shadows fill the high-ceilinged reading room of a Nottingham campus library as students stand in a loose semi-circle. One projector beam cuts through the darkness, illuminating dust motes and casting stark, moving shadows against the stone walls. Golden light from a large window falls across the polished wooden tables, highlighting scattered papers and open notebooks. The students wear thick wool coats and scarves, their postures rigid with concentration. Behind them, rows of dark bookshelves rise toward the vaulted ceiling, their spines barely visible in the gloom. The projector's glow reflects in the glass of the window frames, creating sharp edges of light against the heavy velvet curtains.
