The books, their spines worn and pages yellowed, lie in disarray across the cushioned bench. Deep autumn shadows stretch along the walls, showing the quiet stillness of the room. Layers of depth recede into the distance where the laboratory equipment stands silent and still. The cool white glow reflects off the glass panes of the window, against the warm tones of the paper. Dust motes hang suspended in the air, caught in the harsh beam. One bookmark rests between two open pages near the edge of the seat.
