Monochrome Hall Blue Water Vortex
by Clyde Stuart
Soft tungsten light spills across the tiled stair hall in Klaipėda, rendering the concrete steps, stone walls, and metal handrails in muted grays and pale whites. The early spring darkness presses against the high windows, leaving the space quiet and still. Every surface appears washed of color except the drain at the center of the frame. There, a swirling vortex of electric blue water spirals down the stainless steel basin, creating a sharp geometric rhythm against the monochrome surroundings. The water's surface ripples with intense saturation, reflecting the overhead bulb as a bright white star. Deep shadows pool in the corners of the stairwell, while the blue fluid twists into a perfect spiral that defies the grayscale reality of the room. The edge of the drain catches the light, marking a crisp boundary between the impossible color and the neutral architecture.
