Harsh fluorescent tubes overhead cast a sterile white glare across the white laminate surface of the emergency intake desk. Beside the station, a window allows cool blue moonlight to fall across stacks of paper forms and plastic trays, creating a sharp contrast with the warm orange glow of firelight reflecting off a distant metal object. The dry season air is evident in the dust settling on the monitor screens. A nurse station computer monitor emits a soft greenish-blue glow that illuminates the edge of a clipboard resting on the desk. Shadows stretch long and rigid across the floor tiles, showing the stillness of the deep night. at the edge is a single reflection of a red emergency light on the glossy surface of a plastic cup.
