A Cairn Terrier stands alert on the cracked pavement of a narrow Athens alleyway under the harsh glare of a sodium streetlamp. The dog’s wiry coat catches the yellow light, casting a sharp, elongated shadow that stretches toward the base of a crumbling stucco wall. Above, the underside of a concrete flyover looms, its surface striped with dark bands from the passing traffic of a distant main road. A small, silver cameo pin glints briefly on the collar of a figure partially obscured in the background, holding a leash.
