Midday Lyon Bridge Pier Base Swirling with Muddy Floodwater in 1970s France

The concrete base of a massive bridge pier dominates the lower frame, its gray stone surface wet and slick from the Rhône River. Turbulent, muddy brown water swirls violently around the foundation, churning white foam against the hard architecture. Above, the heavy masonry of the bridge spans across the top of the view, casting deep shadows on the riverbank. The midday sun reflects off the choppy water surface, highlighting the sediment load carried by the flood. No people are visible, only the raw power of the river interacting with the industrial infrastructure of Lyon, France.
