Matcha Wagashi Sweets on Tray in Santiago

Emerald green matcha powder dusts the top of a rectangular wagashi sweet, resting beside a pale pink floral confection on a dark lacquered tray. The sweets sit on a woven rush mat, their smooth surfaces catching the warm, golden glow of overhead string lights. Tiny dust particles float in the shafts of light, suspended above the lacquer. Through the open window behind the tray, the blurred orange and white points of early evening city lights from Santiago de Querétaro begin to appear. The shallow depth of field keeps the texture of the sweet's coating sharp while the urban background softens. One drop of condensation rests on the edge of the tray, reflecting the overhead bulb.
