Lemongrass Vendor in George Town

First light breaks over a narrow George Town lane where wet red brick walls reflect the grey sky and a vendor arranges bunches of fresh lemongrass on a plastic crate. The foreground is dominated by the rough, fibrous texture of the stalks, while the background reveals the deep shadow of a shophouse doorway with its characteristic teal window frames and weathered wooden shutters. A faded yellow sign with Chinese characters peels slightly from the wall, anchoring the scene in Penang’s multicultural heritage and providing a stark contrast to the vibrant green produce. A sudden gust lifts the corner of a damp blue tarp, revealing a glimpse of the slick, rain-slicked pavement below.
