Late Morning Light on Gardener

Sunlight strikes the facade of a Haussmannian apartment block, illuminating a wrought-iron balcony where a gardener in a denim smock tends to terracotta pots. A measuring tape hangs loosely from a tool belt, its yellow blade curling against the dark metal railing. Below, on the sidewalk, a stack of folded newspapers rests near a café table, their headlines blurred by the bright late morning glare. Soap streaks run down the white tiles of a nearby washbasin, catching the light in a way that contrasts with the rough stone of the building.
