Late Afternoon Light on Kite

Late afternoon sun floods the paved promenade of Christchurch’s Avon River, casting long, sharp shadows from the distinctive concrete yachts of the Bridge of Remembrance across the water’s edge. A group of teenagers gathers near the stone balustrade, their attention fixed on a large, red diamond kite struggling against a sudden gust, its tail snapping in the wind. Nearby, a street vendor’s cart overflows with colorful fruit and wicker baskets, the warm light catching the gloss of apples and the rough weave of the containers.
