Under the harsh, shadowless glare of noon, a seamstress in a modest La Paz workshop leans over a heavy wooden worktable scarred by decades of knife marks. She manipulates a needle and thread, her focus intense as she stitches a vibrant, multicolored pollera skirt, the fabric’s rich hues against the dull, dusty air. A matte-glazed ceramic cup sits abandoned near a pile of fabric scraps, while a simple wooden stool rests nearby, empty and waiting. The quiet, rhythmic labor of textile production, grounded by the rough textures of the worn wood and the vibrant, tactile quality of the local textiles, all lit by the flat, unforgiving light of the high-altitude midday sun.
