First light after rain catches the wet blacktop of a narrow Kochi lane, where a vendor balances a stack of gleaming red lacquered serving bowls on his head, their glossy surfaces reflecting the overcast sky. Beside him, a wooden cart holds a single rolling pin resting on a damp cloth, surrounded by the scattered chaos of breakfast prep. The jade-green glaze of a ceramic cup sits on a rough concrete ledge, against the slick, rain-slicked pavement below.
