Late afternoon light slants through the high desert sky, casting long, sharp shadows across the adobe stucco of a Santa Fe kitchen. A cast iron skillet rests on a gas burner, its surface dark and seasoned, catching the warm glow of the setting sun. Beside it, a wooden book press sits open on the counter, holding a stack of handmade paper damp from the press. A bottle brush leans against a ceramic jar, its bristles dusted with dried pigment. Through the window, a clothesline stretches across the patio, holding a few white hand towels that flutter slightly in the dry breeze.
