Before dawn light reaches the sky, a street vendor in Kaohsiung tends to a large steaming clay pot on a cart near the Love River. Wisps of steam rise into the cool morning air, obscuring the edge of the pot where Cantonese braised short ribs simmer. The vendor uses a scrub brush to clean the rim, preparing for the day's customers. In the background, the silhouette of the 85 Sky Tower stands against the darkening horizon. A double-decker bus is not present, but a lone taxi drives past on the wet asphalt.
