Helicopter Sling Loads Supplies to Alpine Hut
by Luna Frazier
A red helicopter hovers low over a steep switchback road carved into the granite slopes near Chamonix, its rotors churning the air above a wooden mountain hut. Thick cables dangle from the aircraft, suspending a bundle of supplies just inches from the hut's slate roof. The sky is a flawless, deep azure, yet a massive ringed planet hangs low on the horizon, casting a cool, pale glow that competes with the bright noon sun. Early summer grasses along the ridge are vibrant green, untouched by the surreal celestial body looming overhead. Shadows fall sharply beneath the helicopter and the hut, defined by the harsh midday light, while the distant rings of the planet reflect a soft, silvery sheen against the crisp mountain air. The cables tension visibly as the pilot maneuvers the cargo toward the wooden door.
