Glowing Helicopter Over Autumn Salt Flats
by Derek Fisher
Hard coastal glare strikes a helicopter hovering low over vast, cracked salt flats near Spokane. The machine's fuselage bears patches of mud and frost, grounding it in the peak autumn landscape. Instead of a visible engine or light source, the aircraft glows from within, casting a steady, ethereal white radiance that illuminates the surrounding salt crust and skittering dry leaves. This internal light creates sharp, clean shadows on the ground, defying the harsh mid-morning sun. The leaves drift in visible gusts across the flat expanse, their orange and brown hues vibrant against the pale, mineral earth. The glow reflects softly off the helicopter's rotor blades, which remain still in the frame, while the distant horizon blurs slightly in the evening haze despite the late morning time.
