Harvester Path Through Midsummer Barley Field in at the edge of a tea plantation in the Urals

Harvester Path Through Midsummer Barley Field

by Rowan Parks

Bright noon light flattens the golden barley stalks into a wide, dusty corridor where a machine has just passed. Fine chaff drifts through the air, catching the glare above the cut stems. To the right, rows of dark green tea bushes climb the slope, their leaves glossy under the harsh sun. The soil between the crop rows appears dry and packed hard by the heavy machinery. A faint haze of dust hangs low over the flattened grain, softening the edges of the remaining standing stalks. The contrast between the pale, harvested strip and the deep green tea plantation creates a sharp horizontal line across the landscape. Small clumps of cut straw lie scattered on the bare earth near the edge of the path.
