Hanging Fabric in Luang Prabang at Honeyed Evening Light

by Daniel Cervantes

Sunlight falls through the open sides of a traditional wooden structure in Luang Prabang, casting long shadows across a floor scattered with indigo-dyed cotton. Several lengths of heavy fabric hang from bamboo poles, their wet edges dripping slowly onto the packed earth below. A local artisan stands nearby, inspecting the color saturation on a section of cloth that has just been pulled from a fermentation vat. The warm, golden light highlights the texture of the woven fibers and the natural patterns created by the resist-dyeing process.
