Hammering Metal in Essaouira

The low sun slants through the high arched doorway of a traditional riad workshop, casting long, sharp shadows across the worn wooden floor. An elderly craftsman sits hunched over a low workbench, his hands steady as he shapes a sheet of hammered aluminum, the metal catching the golden hour light with a bright, rippled gleam. Beside him, a woven basket of raw reeds rests in the shade, its fibers glowing amber where the light spills over the rim. The air is thick with fine metallic dust, visible in the slanted beams, while the rough plaster walls absorb the warmth.
