Flat noon light bleaches the limestone facade of a colonial building in Merida, casting sharp, geometric shadows across a sun-baked patio where a woman in a crisp white linen dress stands in profile. She holds a jade-green ceramic pitcher, its glaze reflecting the harsh sky, while a Chinese Crested dog with sparse hair stands alert on the tiled floor beside her, looking toward the street. Behind them, a wooden pulley system hangs from a beam, supporting a faded quilt that acts as a makeshift awning against the glare. Bright red geraniums spill from terracotta pots arranged in a row, their vibrant color against the pale stone and the dog’s pink skin.
