Guayaquil Pantry Shelf Mason Jars Spices Preserves
by Dwight Frank
Bright open daylight floods a pantry shelf in Guayaquil, illuminating rows of glass mason jars filled with vibrant preserves and dried spices. The cool season air leaves dust motes suspended in the light beams. Wooden shelves hold ceramic bowls and woven sacks alongside the glass containers. Through the window, green leaves skitter across the floor in sudden gusts, their motion blurring against the static interior. An over-the-shoulder view reveals the back of a person wearing a light cotton shirt, their head turned slightly to inspect the labels. The glass surfaces reflect the outdoor greenery, while the rough texture of the spice sacks contrasts with the smooth, cool curves of the jar lids. A shadow of a leaf falls sharply across a jar of red chili flakes.
