Two green banker lamps with brass bases rest on the surface, their glass shades reflecting small, bright highlights against the wood grain. Stacks of paper and open books lie beside the lamps, their pages catching the soft glow. A student's shoulder frames the left edge of the view, holding a heavy wool coat draped over the chair back. Muted gold tones from the season settle over the scene. A sharp reflection of a lamp shade runs along the edge of the table, marking the boundary between light and shadow.
