Red brickwork glows under the last golden light of an early autumn day, illuminating a zigzagging fire escape that climbs the side of a formal civic building in Hefei. Metal railings catch the sun, casting sharp, dark shadows against the reddish-brown masonry. Wide dramatic clouds stretch across the sky, their undersides tinged with orange and deep gray, suggesting the imminent arrival of night. The plaza below remains empty, showing the vertical lines of the steel structure against the static geometry of the wall. A final sliver of light reflects off the topmost landing railing, marking the edge of the day.
