Goat Kidding Stall Before Sunrise in British Columbia

Cold breath hovers in the dim air around metal rails and gates, visible as faint white wisps against the deep shadows of a livestock stall. The ground is covered with thick, folded towels arranged in a nesting area, their white fibers catching a thin rim of pale dawn light. Beside the bedding, a cylindrical mineral tub sits empty and gray. The stall is positioned near a wooden windbreak, its dark planks standing still against the pre-dawn gloom. A water trough reflects the faint sky above, its surface undisturbed. Late spring air keeps the scene quiet, with no movement in the straw or the folded fabric. One shadow stretches long across the towel pile, ending at the edge of the metal gate.
