Goalkeeper Gloves Drying on Goalpost by Riverbank
by Hadley McCoy
Dark goalkeeper gloves hang from the white crossbar of a soccer goal, their padded palms facing outward against a wet, gray sky. Rain streaks down the black netting, blurring the background where the Ganges river flows under a heavy, overcast canopy. The golden hour light breaks through the clouds, casting a warm, low-angle glow that silhouettes the goal structure and turns the falling rain into fine, shimmering threads. Green grass along the riverbank appears saturated and heavy with water, while distant trees on the far bank stand as dark, indistinct shapes. The gloves, soaked and heavy, drip small rivulets of water onto the muddy ground below. A faint reflection of the sky ripples across the river surface, mirroring the stillness of the suspended equipment.
