Geraniums in Kyoto at First Light

Morning light falls through the damp air of a narrow Kyoto alley, illuminating a traditional machiya entrance where rain-slicked stone steps lead to a wooden threshold. A faded blue laundry basket sits overturned near the door, spilling white cotton sheets onto the wet pavement. Beside it, a small cluster of red geraniums in a chipped ceramic pot adds a vivid splash of color against the dark, weathered timber of the building’s facade.
