Geraniums at Late Morning Light

Sunlight slants sharply across a weathered balcony railing in a Delhi neighborhood, illuminating a cluster of terracotta pots where bright red geraniums spill over the edges. The turquoise paint on the adjacent concrete wall is peeling in thin, papery curls, revealing layers of older gray plaster beneath. A small, rusted tool caddy sits abandoned near the planters, its contents obscured by shadow, while a single coffee mug rests upside down on a ledge, catching the late morning glare. The intricate ironwork of a neighboring building’s jharokha, casting geometric shadows that cut across the rough texture of the stucco.
