George Town Shophouse Interior
by Shane Howell
Late afternoon light slices through the open shutter of a heritage shophouse in George Town, casting a sharp, golden stripe across the worn black-and-white checkerboard floor tiles. A weathered rattan chair sits slightly askew near the entrance, its weave catching the warm glow. On a low wooden counter nearby, a cluster of glass spice jars with faded labels reflects the sunlight, their contents visible but unremarkable. Outside, the street is blurred by motion, but the interior holds a quiet, lived-in stillness. The contrast between the bright, hot exterior and the cool, shadowed interior creates a natural frame, drawing attention to the textures of the aged wood and the dusty air hanging in the beam of light.
