Fog Rolling Up Windward Mountain Face Near La Paz

by Kristen Hines

Cold silver dawn light bathes the steep Andean slope near La Paz as thick white fog begins its slow ascent. The windward face of the mountain rises sharply, its dark volcanic rock and sparse, dry grasses visible beneath the creeping cloud layer. Low-hanging clouds hug the valley floor, creating a soft, seamless horizon where the earth meets the sky. The scene remains still, with no movement except the subtle drift of moisture climbing the incline. Patches of green shrubbery rest on the rocky terrain, against the pale, cool tones of the mist. The fog thickens against the rock, blurring the boundary between stone and vapor. A faint shadow falls across the lower ridge, marking the transition from night to day.
