Flute Setup in George Town

Under the harsh, shadowless glare of flat noon, a street vendor in George Town balances a stack of dented steel tiffin tins on a weathered wooden table, the metal surfaces reflecting the blinding white sky above. Beside the stacked containers, a cracked plastic cooler jug sits open, revealing ice cubes melting into condensation that pools on the varnished wood. One wooden flute rests casually against the rim of the top tin, its dark grain against the silver sheen. In the background, the facade of a shophouse shows peeling lime paint and intricate blue-and-white ceramic tiles, typical of the Peranakan architecture lining the street.
