Flower Seller at Belas Metro Entrance

Warm yellow light spills from a storefront onto wet pavement, against the cooling blue of the evening sky. An elderly woman stands at the street corner outside the Belas metro entrance, her hands arranging white lilies and green ferns on a small wooden crate. Rain has recently stopped, leaving droplets on the petals and glistening on her dark wool coat. A soft haze rises from the ground around the glowing street lamps. She wears a patterned headscarf framing her weathered face, looking toward the station. The metal turnstiles of the station entrance stand behind her, their surfaces slick with moisture. One red umbrella rests against the crate, its fabric dark and heavy with water.
