Fisherman's Gear in Bilbao

Mist clings low to the Nervión River as dawn breaks over Bilbao, softening the industrial steel of the Zubizuri bridge into a ghostly arc. On the wet concrete embankment, a fisherman’s tarp is spread, damp and heavy, holding a cluster of garlic bulbs and a chisel resting against a peeling turquoise crate. The light is diffuse, catching the rough skin of the garlic and the rusted metal of the tool, while the river flows silently in the background. One embroidered thread, bright red against the gray stone, is caught in the eyelet of the crate, trembling slightly in the cold breeze.
