Fire Whirl Spinning in New Brunswick Aftermath

by Lindsey Knowles

A column of rising ash and embers twists into a tight vortex against the darkening sky. The sun dips low, casting a warm, orange glow that illuminates the swirling debris and the heat haze shimmering above the charred ground. Tall, blackened tree stumps stand like silent sentinels around the spinning column, their rough bark against the smooth, fluid motion of the smoke. The monsoon season leaves the earth damp, yet the fire's heat creates a visible distortion in the air. Golden sparks float upward, caught in the rotational current, while the horizon line remains stark and minimalist. at the edge is a single ember clinging to the edge of a blackened log, glowing faintly in the twilight.
