Flat noon light washes over a sun-bleached exterior wall in Bologna, where a faded terracotta majolica tile with crazed glaze is set into the plaster near a ground-floor window. A faded linen curtain hangs half-open behind the glass, catching the harsh midday glare without softening it. Below, a narrow strip of sidewalk shows the scuffed toe of a beaded sandal resting against the base of a rusted iron stair rail that leads to a raised entryway. A chipped enamel pitcher sits on the step, its white surface stained by years of rain, next to a faint water mark creeping up the painted plaster.
