Enamel Bowls in George Town
by Tariq Bowman
Damp morning mist rests on the weathered wooden shutters of a heritage shophouse in George Town, softening the edges of the colonial facade. A pair of bright blue enamel bowls sits on a narrow stone ledge, their glossy surfaces reflecting the diffused gray light of the dawn. Condensation beads form along the rim of the nearest bowl, catching the faint glow of a distant streetlamp filtering through the fog. Water droplets trickle slowly down the chipped paint, marking the quiet transition from night to day in this historic Malaysian neighborhood.
