Driftwood in Bergen at Late Morning Light
by Lucy Zavala
A weathered piece of driftwood rests on the wet, dark stones of the Bryggen harbor edge, its pale bleached surface against the deep shadows of the fjord. Bright late morning light catches the smooth, rounded curves of the timber, highlighting the natural grain and salt-encrusted textures left by the tide. Behind the wood, the iconic yellow and red facades of the Hanseatic wharrows rise steeply, their vertical lines drawing the eye upward toward the overcast sky. One rusted iron ring embedded in the stone quay anchors the composition, serving as a sturdy mooring point for small boats nearby.
