Pale morning light spills across the whitewashed facade of a traditional riad in Essaouira, casting long, soft shadows from the intricate wooden mashrabiya window screens onto the smooth plaster walls. A young artisan stands on a low wooden stool, his back to the camera, carefully applying a coat of vibrant blue pigment to a carved cedar door frame. Beside him, a metal bucket holds brushes and a rag, while a frayed rope from a nearby fishing net hangs loosely against the wall, its fibers catching the early sun.
