Rain streaks the grimy glass of a narrow bouchon in Vieux Lyon, blurring the warm tungsten glow of the dining room into soft halos against the dusk. Inside, a waitress in a crisp white apron navigates the tight aisle between dark wooden tables, her movement creating a slight motion blur that contrasts with the static, heavy stone walls. On a nearby table, a half-empty glass of Beaujolais sits beside a folded newspaper and a pair of wet, dark leather shoes, evidence of a meal just concluded. The wet pavement outside reflects the neon sign of a nearby pharmacy, casting a faint pinkish hue onto the sidewalk where a pedestrian hurries past, umbrella inverted against the wind.
