Desert Portrait Near Nouakchott Just After Sunrise

Delicate morning light spills across the weathered face of a Bedouin elder standing near Nouakchott. Deep lines etch the skin, mapped by years of sun and wind, while kohl-lined eyes gaze forward with quiet intensity. The heat haze shimmers in the air, softening the edges of the subject against the pale, empty space surrounding them. Fine dust settles on the fabric of the traditional garment draped over broad shoulders. The light catches the texture of dry skin and the sharp, dark rings around the eyes. A faint shadow falls across the collarbone, at the base of the figure in the stillness of the early morning.
