Brass pastry tongs lie parallel to the edge of the counter, their metal tips catching a faint amber reflection from the corner lamps. The room remains empty, save for the stillness of the setup. Shadows stretch long across the floorboards, deepening the contrast between the cool exterior light and the settling lamplight in the corners. one drop of condensation rests on the rim of a distant crock.
