A damp, grey morning light falls through the high, arched windows of a Portland laneway, illuminating a narrow strip of wet concrete where a delivery cyclist pauses. The rider, clad in a bright yellow rain jacket, leans against a rusted metal cabinet mounted on the brick wall, their gloved hand resting near a small, corroded latch that catches the dull light. Beside them, a ceramic tile from a nearby café’s outdoor mural lies loose on the ground, cracked by recent frost. A discarded postcard, blown against the wall by a light breeze, flutters slightly, its glossy surface reflecting the overcast sky.
