The blue hour settles over a Portland laneway, casting a cool, diffuse glow across the wet asphalt where a cyclist has paused to adjust a heavy canvas pannier. The bag’s zipper is open, revealing a glimpse of a worn red towel and a brass clothespin clipped to the strap, remnants of a daily commute rather than a staged still life. Beyond the cyclist, the facade of a brick apartment building features a small, irregular mosaic tile fragment embedded in the mortar near the doorframe, catching the last ambient light from a nearby streetlamp.
